Child and Remaining Relative Visas

Australia offers a wide range of family visas designed to cover most situations. While not exhaustive, we highlight that the majority of the more commonly chosen options fall within the Family Category.

A Child Visa.

This visa allows an eligible parent to sponsor their child to live in Australia permanently. Parents may apply on behalf of a child under 18 years of age.

To be an eligible parent, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen,

  • a permanent resident of Australia, or

  • an eligible New Zealand citizen.

The child must be outside Australia both at the time the application is submitted and when the decision is made.

The Remaining Relative Visa.

This permanent visa is for people who wish to move to Australia to join their only close relatives. To qualify, the application must be lodged from outside Australia, and you must also be overseas when the visa is granted.
