This visa allows you to live in Australia as the spouse or de facto partner of:

• an Australian citizen

• a permanent resident

• or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

The Partner (Provisional) visa serves as the first step towards obtaining a permanent Partner visa. You only need to submit one application covering both the temporary and permanent stages, along with a single application fee. Processing occurs in two parts, typically about two years apart.

To apply, you must be outside Australia and remain outside the country when the Partner (Provisional) visa is granted. However, when the permanent Partner visa is granted, you may be either in or outside Australia.
